Brazilian National Champion!
braspw.jpgI'd like to announce that my student Ricardo Teixeira took first place on the Brazilian Nationals Novice Championship this weekend in the 17 years old, super heavy weight division. "TX" overcame easily athletes from Gracie Barra and Brazilian Top Team scoring DOZENS of points and submitting 2 or his 3 matches. I am sure Ricardo will be a great Blue Belt next year!

A new WBJJA Brown Belt
PA170024.JPG
I'd like to announce that on October 18th of 2008, Emmanuel Alves was promoted to Brown Belt. Professor Vieira had the pleasure to award this rank for one of the most loyal students I ever had. Emmanuel has been training jiu-jitsu since he was 11 years old with me. I am happy to see that he is in the right path and kept focusing on his development as an athlete and as a man. Congratulations!!

Master Paulo's video (2008 World Championship Finals)
pw1.jpg
I just got the video of Master Paulo's final fight. Click here to watch. The fight was decided in the beginning when he was being almost swept and quickly reversed the situation attacking the opponent's leg and swept the opponent getting the points for the sweep, instead the opponent! I am very impressed that in all his matches he managed to keep fighting standing up, due his injured knee and still overcame all the other competitors.

We've had another great win in our Junior division. On Aug 23rd in Jamestown, OH. Cody Henson, a 9 year old student of our dojo won gold in grappling and free style ju-jitsu.

Cody competed in The American Karate and Ju-Jitsu Union Nationals. This win qualifies him to travel to Ireland as part of the International Team and fight in the 13th Annual Irish Cup.

I needed to share with all of you what I accomplished today. Our jiu-jitsu is amazing. It allowed me to overcome what seemed impossible in the eyes of a lot of people, but not for me. You MUST watch this video of my fight at the semi-final at the WFC open weight division. Seeing Master Paulo's achievement this year has inspired me and I wish the same to all of you. Click at this YouTube link. Good training!

Visiting from ECUADOR!!! (JULY/2008)
gustavo.jpg
My trip back was Ok and now I am back to the day by day work routine.  Anyways, it was such a pleasure to meet you in Sarasota.  It was so nice to learn from you and see you doing and showing me the techniques.  Jiu-Jitsu is such a wonderful art and I am very happy I found you  and be able to take advantage of the fabulous distance learning program you offer. It is so well made that when I train from it, it is just like when I was at the clinic and seeing you perform the techniques.  When I go on August again I will try to come as often as possible to the classes while we are there.

Master Paulo - 2008 Master's World Champion
Podium.jpg

I am vibrating with excitement to announce that our Master Paulo Wesley is the new WORLD CHAMPION in his division at the Masters International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2008 that just took place in Rio de Janeiro this past weekend. We will soon post more pictures, videos and Master Lopes' narration of every fight. I'd like to share with you some words that he said after the finals.

"Dear friends, to me it was very difficult to compete this time and overcome this great challenge due the recent surgery on my knee. I wasn’t supposed to fight this year but the thirst to overcome obstacles spoke louder in my heart. Therefore, I do not recommend such struggle to anyone of you. But I had the goal to win this title for the WBJJA - for us. My task in this case was even more complicated as there was only one path: to win. I am thankful for my loyal training partners: Professor Amaury, Ricardo and my student Fred that trains under Master Strauch. Professor Amaury was of great help since my friend Caio Terra couldn't train with me at this time, so I needed a different strategy as I did not know how my knee would respond in a real combat situation.

Thank you for the support that all of you gave and for the positive thinking that helped me to win this championship. Now I need to rest and recover my knee for next year so I can return to the mats and give a hard time to new competitors in my division, because every time has been more challenging. As Great Master Carlson Gracie said: 'While you are resting... somewhere, there is always someone training hard to get you!' - God bless everyone!!"

WBJJA at Rochester, NY (JUNE/2008)
thadeudino.jpgThadeu, I know I speak for everyone when I say "Thank You"...... We had a wonderful class... We had a good / different warm up, a good work out, and learn some stuff as well. Everyone had a great time but I think everyone thought one of the best parts was you choking Little John.... It is very refreshing to experience a "Real" Brazilian Jiujitsu seminar..... The 4-5 "trick techniques" seminars are getting very old and not to enlightening. Again, I/we thank you and can't wait until your next visit.
